From my desk to Main Street and backroads: Photo Essays of East Fishkill
His loss marks the first officer fatality in East Fishkill's history.
Sergeant Daniel P. DiDato tragically lost his life in a car accident close to Mile Marker 36.2 on the southbound Taconic State Parkway around 6:00 pm on December 18th, 2023.
He was heading to Westchester Medical Center to speak with a pedestrian who had been hit by a car near the East Fishkill police station. While on the parkway, Officer DiDato's vehicle got off the road and hit a tree. He was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, but sadly, his injuries were fatal.
In the face of sorrow, I shy away from the solemnity of funerals and raw grief. Instead, I will document the support weaving through East Fishkill for Officer DiDato's family and the police department. Join me over the next few days as I capture those fleeting moments often overlooked—be it a reassuring nod from an officer, a shared glance on Main Street, or a blue ribbon for support.
